The unlock code worked fine, there was an issue with the system reverting to HDD instead of remaining in DVD mode and I failed to pick up this error.

Just to confirm that the unlock code instructions worked well and the code was unlocked after step 5; there was no necessity to continue with the additional steps.

I was sceptical when read the short 3 line method to unlock, but did it, and sure enough now I can see the DVD working!

Got myself a new shiny DVD Recorder. However, I live in the US so it
is set to Region Code 1. Now I'm from Belgium and there are some
DVD's only sold in Belgium but have themselves set to Region Code 2.
I also have 2 10 month olds and I would like for them to be able to
see movies like Snowwhite in Dutch but they are all stamped with
Region Code 2. Something the manufacturers clearly did not think about.

So I did a search on the web and came empty handed. No-one had the
unlock code for the Philips DVDR3400. This until I came across this
website. Quick look in the list and I could not believe it, my DVDR is in the list.

I quickly paid for access, got the code and in less then 5 minutes my
DVDR is set to Region Code 0. It took me longer to wait for the DVDR
to start-up then to enter the code.

I thank you and my sons would thank you if they could :-)

Thanks for the instructions to unlock the Ferguson. I have used them and it played a Region 1 disc no problem. I also turned the machine off and disconnected it from the power source and let it for a while just in case it forgot the instructions and returned to default. When I switched it back on it continued to play region 1 discs.
