Our Favourite Reviews To Date:

My favourite film is Planet Of The Apes. A science fiction classic starring Charlton Heston in the lead role. The costumes and effects of Planet Of The Apes stand up fantastically against the films of today, despite its release in 1968. The film creates such a convincing representation of what life on another planet could be like, inhabited by a civilised ape society and, of course, the twist at the film’s end is pure cinematic gold! This is a timeless film.

My favourite film to date is Double Indemnity. This is one of the rare times when the movie was far better than the book. That's not a shock after you find out that literary giant Raymond Chandler and Hall Of Fame director Billy Wilder combined to write the screenplay. MacMurray's narration is fun to hear as he tells the story in flashback, from the beginning by dictating into an old Dictaphone to his co-worker Robinson. The latter is almost mesmerizing in his performance, the way he delivers his lines. He can even make a speech about something as boring as insurance and still keep you riveted to the screen.

Definitely The Lord of the Rings trilogy. An epic story that envelops you in landscapes, special effects and characters in such a way that is as good as the books. The film was created 50 years after, even when everybody thought that it was impossible. The best film of all time

Disney's THE LION KING (3D)

Simply put, it was my three-year-old grand-daughter's first ever visit to the cinema!

She sat with me throughout the whole film, wearing her 3D glasses, totally spellbound and thrilled; telling everybody since about her experience. Everyone knows that "Pumbaa's nose came right out the screen" as she quickly ducked out of the way!

My favourite Movie is High Society. Love the songs of Bing and Frank..Love the look of Grace….Love the extravagant lifestyle of those that lived in Newport…Love the Jazz of Louis….Its just True Love for me!

Helen

Favourite movie: Shall We Dance

This is my favourite because it teaches that we shouldn't kill our desires. There can be delay in fulfilling due to other commitments in life but we should always find out way to achieve those desires.

My favourite film would have to be Face Off 1997... Really liked the solution, a special operation doctor that can cut off people's faces, and can place a person's face onto another person. Archer undergoes one of those surgeries to talk to Pollux. However, Troy somehow regains consciousness and now wants revenge on Archer for taking his face!

Hayley

The Ultimate Gift would be my favourite film to date.

The movie shows the morality of wealth the greed the power to use wealth for good or evil. But also shows that wealth can be used as a blessing to the owner and to be used as a blessing to the owners sphere of influence.

It shows that wealth used properly does not have to spoil people, the uncle in Texas as an example. The family of Drew are examples of wealth used in error.

The movie contains drama, humour, excitement, thrills, sentiment but most of all love.

Favourite Film: Forbidden Planet

Reason: Despite the limited technology available at the time for special effects and some "cheesy acting", which is part of the charm. The concept and story hold the imagination and make it a memorable and watchable movie. Also it has stood the test of time as Robbie the Robot is still a cult hero today.

Favourite film - Harakiri

For many year Seven Samurai was my favourite movie but Masaki Kobayashi's Harakiri has eclipsed that. An apparently simple story with a brutal beginning and a magnificent understated performance by Tatsuya Nakadai. It keeps you waiting a long time for the inevitable one-against-many swordfight at the end and during most of that you forget to breath! A masterpiece.

My favourite movie to date is Braveheart, The reason why is so simple because it is a true story of a downtrodden people standing up for their rights, And not allowing a bully to push them from their homeland.

Peter

My favourite film to date is Blind Side:

It reminds us how lucky we are to have the things we have, that there are less fortunate people out there that need help. It should remind us to be kinder to fellow man, to give a smile it’s free, to love & cherish those we have in our life. If the world went back to the old values it would be a better place. Take time to smell the roses, to listen, to share, to care, give love and be loved.

My favourite film at present is "The Christmas Card" starring John Newton, Alice Evans & Ed Asner. As this is only available on Region 1 & I had to purchase from USA it is the reason I registered on your site

Voted best film of 2007 it is about a Christmas card sent to a US soldier serving in Afghanistan. The card never leaves his side giving him the strength to survive. While on leave he tracks down the sender but doesn't let her know who he is. He starts work for her family who own a timber company in Nevada City. She becomes engaged to her long term boyfriend who is wholly unsuitable for her. Needless to say the soldier falls in love with her and all ends happily ever after. I'm a sucker for a good romance.

My all time favourite film to date is "Gone with the Wind". This choice, of course, reflects the taste of the "Grey Panthers" post war generation (I am 75 years old) - I am positive that today's young people would choose totally different productions (if they ever heard of this one anyway...)

Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable gave an excellent, both moving and thrilling performance - and so did the rest of the cast (just think of Hattie McDaniel, Scarlett O'Hara's Mammy!) "Gone with the Wind" for me is an overwhelming epos - at the same time tender, cruel, passionate and what else, depicting both the personal and the all over tragedy of the American Civil War. This film resembles a great, colourful painting leaving the viewer then in awe, then breathless, then sad, then almost at a loss when the film ends - one of the rare "no happy end" productions anyway!
